Metamorphosis of the City
- 100 x 75 cm
€15,000
Metamorphosis of the City examines the city as a constantly changing organism — a structure that is never complete, but continuously rebuilt through expansion, erasure, memory, and time. The composition is divided into three distinct spatial fields. At its center, a dense urban layer stretches horizontally across the canvas, formed by fragmented architectural elements and an intricate network of intersecting lines. Above it, the city opens into an expansive, almost weightless pale-blue atmosphere, while below, a dark geometric field introduces a striking sense of depth and interruption. Fine vertical and diagonal lines move freely between these zones, dissolving the conventional boundary between architecture, horizon, and open space. At the lower center, a concentrated cluster of white and dark lines appears almost like an emerging nucleus — a point of transformation from which a new structure might form. The apparent calm of the distant city contrasts with the instability of its underlying systems. What initially seems ordered gradually reveals itself as a complex network of tensions, connections, and continuous change. In Metamorphosis of the City, Vahagn Bagoyan presents urban transformation not as a single event, but as an ongoing condition. The city exists between construction and dissolution, stability and uncertainty — perpetually becoming something other than what it was.

Pink City

Pink City approaches the city from an imagined aerial perspective, transforming the urban landscape into an expansive field of territories, networks, and shifting boundaries. The composition resembles a map seen from above, yet it resists conventional cartographic logic. Dense urban clusters emerge within broad fields of dusty pink, muted green, and earth tones. Fine networks of lines suggest streets, infrastructure, and patterns of expansion, while irregular painted surfaces blur the distinction between built environment and natural terrain. A dark, winding line cuts vertically through the composition like a river, dividing and simultaneously connecting different territories. Around it, concentrations of white, green, and coral form distinct urban nodes — places where structure intensifies before gradually dispersing into the surrounding landscape. The pink field becomes more than a background. Its unexpected softness contrasts with the complexity of the urban networks, shifting the work away from the visual language of technical mapping toward something more subjective and atmospheric. The city appears simultaneously real and imagined, measurable and elusive. In Pink City, Vahagn Bagoyan reinterprets the master plan as an emotional geography. From a distance, the metropolis becomes a living territory shaped by expansion, fragmentation, landscape, and memory — a map not only of space, but of how space is perceived.

Breath of the Expanding City

€27,500
Breath of the Expanding City explores urban expansion as a living, almost organic process — a continuous negotiation between density and openness, construction and atmosphere, control and unpredictability. Across the composition, an intricate network of fine lines overlays a vast horizontal urban field. Architectural fragments accumulate, intersect, and extend toward the edges of the canvas, suggesting a metropolis whose growth can no longer be contained within a stable geometry. The lines evoke infrastructure, circulation, communication, and invisible trajectories — systems through which the contemporary city expands and sustains itself. Yet the work is not defined by density alone. Above the compressed urban structure, an open band of sky and luminous cloud-like forms introduces air, distance, and a sense of release. This contrast gives the composition its distinctive rhythm: the city seems to contract and expand, almost as if it were breathing. The deep black field at the base creates a powerful visual threshold. It anchors the composition while suggesting an unknown territory beyond the visible city—a space into which its structures may continue to grow. In Breath of the Expanding City, Vahagn Bagoyan presents urban growth not simply as physical development, but as a dynamic condition. The city becomes a living spatial organism — accumulating, connecting, transforming, and continuously pushing beyond its own boundaries.
